Sylva, NC - A small, progressive town in Jackson County, Sylva is the closest town to the Creekmont community. The downtown area hosts many local restaurants and shops along tree-lined streets, surrounded by the Smoky Mountains.
Western Carolina University - Founded in 1889 to bring higher education and career opportunities to the western region of North Carolina, WCU has grown tremendously in the last several decades and now serves more than 9,000 students from 46 states and 39 countries. A member of the University of North Carolina system, WCU provides academic programs covering more than 120 different specialties - perfect for students of any age and background.
The Tuckasegee River - The might Tuck, as its known to locals, begins its course in Jackson County, at the confluence of Panthertown and Greenland Creeks. It flows in a northwesterly direction and provides some of the best fishing, kayaking, canoeing and rafting opportunities in the state, before its journey ends in the Little Tennessee River. Creekmont's Caney Fork waters flow into the Tuckasegee River.
Pinnacle Park - A 1,100 acre tract of land owned by the town of Sylva, Pinnacle Park was previously used as the town's watershed. In 1991 it was leased to the Pinnacle Park Foundation for developing hiking trails designed to accentuate the beautiful streams, waterfalls and vistas it passes. The pinnacle is 5,008 elevation and has a spectacular panoramic view of Sylva and surrounding areas.
Great Smoky Mountains Railroad - With the romance and mystique of an era gone by, guests on board the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad will enjoy year-round scenic train journeys across fertile valleys, through tunnels and across river gorges in a spectacular region of eastern America called the Great Smoky Mountains all in less than a half hour drive from Creekmont's gate.
